This year, five young athletes, rowing for Tempe Junior Crew, qualified for the 2010 USRA Youth National Championships in Cincinnati, OH. This marks the fifth year in a row that Tempe Junior Crew has qualified for the regatta and each year the team has not only made the Grand Final, but has medaled. In all, TJC qualified four boats, the W1X, M1X, W2X and W4X. The team has opted to focus on the M1X and the W4X for the campaign to earn national titles. Three of the five athletes are graduating this year and all 3 are going on to row in college with rowing scholarships or University financial assistance . Zack Dale, who has graduated a year ahead of schedule, will be attending MIT. Jesse Burns will be rowing at the University of Tennessee on a full ride and McKenzie Redman will be rowing at Southern Methodist University on a rowing scholarship as well. The other two young women in the 4x , Sophie Heywood and Jesse Burns , have been invited to attend the US Junior Women's National Team Selection Camp for a chance to earn a seat in the 4X that will represent the US at this year's Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic. The TRA is proud to support these athletes who represent the Arizona rowing community on a national and international level. Congratulations!
